Two hybrid stochastic-deterministic methods for the optimization of flow systems are described. The first method is a combination of a genetic algorithm and simplex method of Nelder-Mead. The other method is a combination of a direct search method of Hooke-Jeeves and simulated annealing. The effectiveness of these methods is tested on a multimodal trigonometric function. The methods are used for multipoint optimization of 3D blading of the LP turbine stage group, giving considerable efficiency gains in the investigated range of load.

Periodicity of selected metals prices at London Metal Exchange during the last eleven years is studied by analysis of rolling Fourier spectra of the daily price quotations series. Predictivity of the prices in medium-term horizon (from 6 month to 2 years ahead) by extrapolation of the eight year cycles and linear trends up to the middle of 2009 is considered. The prediction errors in 6, 12 and 24 month ahead, related to these of Zero-Order-Hold are shown and discussed.

Представлено концепцію зменшення ризику трансакцій на глобальному сировинному ринку. Ідея полягає у конструюванні кошика валют, що мінімізує усереднену змінність цін вибраних товарів. Використано денні котировки курсів семи валют, доповнених курсами SDR, а також цінами срібла та золота для перерахунку денних цін товарів, виражених в USD. Використано метод мінімально-квадратичної оптимізації для знаходження валютного кошика (вираженого частками окремих валют), що мінімізує в чотирирічному періоді дві міри ризику, тобто варіацію результуючого часового ряду цін, а також варіацію багатьох приростів цих цін. Ці міри усереднено для множини вибраних товарів. Результати розрахунків для шести кольорових металів за останні 11 років показують, що спеціалізований кошик сконструйований у такий спосіб може бути кориснішим, ніж типово використовувані валюти (USD, EURO, SDR).

Розглянуто оптимальну структуру кошика валют для мінімізації ризиків торговельних операцій. Проаналізовано принципи побудови оптимального кошика валют, розроблено засадні положення оптимального портфеля Марковіца. Надано пропозиції щодо врахування периферійних валют у структурі платіжного кошика.

Розглянуто можливість непертурбативної ангармонічної поправки до формули Мехлера для пропагатора гармонійного осцилятора. Функціональний інтеграл по умовній мірі Вігнера з членом четвертого порядку в експоненті оцінено в межах методу альтернативного звичайному пертурбативному підходу. На відміну від звичайної теорії збурень, розкладається член в експоненті лінійний по змінній інтеграції в степеневий ряд. Обговорено випадок, коли початкова точка пропагатора дорівнює нулю. Результати надано в аналітичному вигляді як для позитивних, так і негативних частот.

The article presents a method for expressing the value of commodities on world markets (petroleum products) as a function of a basket of currencies or a basket of precious metals (Gold and Silver) and compares their performance with a Markowitz portfolio of the underlying. The method of basket payments can be used as a tool for diminishing the riskiness of forward transactions on commodities markets. By establishing a model of payment based on the baskets, we propose to liberate the payment rules from disadvantages inherent in the use of official currencies. After minimizing the price variability of individual commodities by using instrumental (basket) prices, we propose to construct Markowitz portfolios of the commodities to reach further reduction of the forward transactions riskiness. Results of applying of the idea to selected petroleum products are shown.

Background - myeloid sarcomas (MS) are rare extramedullary tumors composed of blasts of myeloid lineage that either precede, follow or present concomitantly with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) or myeloproliferative neoplasms. The diagnosis of MS is especially challenging in patients without an antecedent history of leukemia. We present 2 cases of intraoral MS that presented as de novo lesions. A detailed review of cases of intraoral MS that either preceded or presented along with leukemia has been done with emphasis on diagnostic criteria used. Two male patients aged 28 and 5 years presented with MS with one patient presenting with concomitant AML. A combination of morphological and immunohistochemical methods was used for diagnosis. A thorough review of world literature revealed 44 cases of intraoral MS that presented as de novo lesions. Conclusion: intraoral MS is a rare tumor with poor prognosis. It may be diagnostically challenging due to its protean clinical manifestations and histological overlap with other tumors.

The paper evaluates the potential impact of internal biogenic pollutants (phosphorus) on the trophic state of the deep, stratified Lake Swiete in Obra, Poland (area 23,3 ha, depth 15,3 m). The amount of phosphorus in interstitial water was analyzed on the basis of spatial studies of 10 cm of surface sediments of bottom sediments. It has been shown that the release of loading accumulated in the water can worsen the trophic state of the lake.

The exact determination of the process zone temperature can be considered as an increasingly important role in the control and monitoring of the friction stir welding process (FSW). At present, temperature measurement is carried out with the aid of a temperature sensor integrated into the tool (usually thermocouples). Since these cannot be attached directly to the joining area, heat dissipation within the tool and to the environment cause measurement deviations as well as a time delay in the temperature measurement. The article describes a process and the challenges that arise in this process, how a direct temperature measurement during the process can be achieved by exploiting the thermoelectric effect between tool and workpiece, without changing the tool by introducing additional temperature sensors.
