The article under discussion focuses on the issue of perspectives for national higher education in the context of world and European trends. The main stream is that of university autonomy. It entails theoretical and practical in-service training of university faculty and administration to make them ready for the process. Autonomy is considered as the leverage for the university ability to affectively respond to evolving society needs in training new specialists.
