We combined analysis of Landsat 8 satellite images and the breeding abundance of the lower Desna River resident terns to investigate if the levels of the floodplain inundation affect the terns’ distribution and numbers. Under the high flood conditions of 2013, we observed a significant decrease in the numbers of colonies and nesting pairs of the Common and Little Terns, which was probably caused by the delayed exposure of their breeding habitats at the river bed. In contrast, in the low water conditions of 2014, areas of sandy islands and river spits increase in the form of temporary sandbanks. Under low-water conditions, we observed a marked increase of the number of colonies and nesting pairs of the Little Tern, while the White-winged Tern disappeared from nesting sites and the Black Tern decreased in numbers Пойменные водоемы нижней Десны образуют подходящие гнездовые стации для черной (Chlidonias niger) и белокрылой крачки (Chlidonias leucoptera), а в русловой части на песчаных островах и косах гнездятся речная (Sterna hirundo) и малая крачки (Sterna albifrons). С помощью анализа спутниковых снимков Landsat 8 установлена степень затопления поймы в условиях крайне высокого и крайне низкого половодья в 2013 и 2014 гг. В условиях высокого половодья значительно снижается количество колоний и гнездовых пар речной и малой крачек в связи с поздним обнажением из-под воды гнездовых биотопов в русловой части реки. В условиях низкого половодья площади песчаных островов и кос значительно возрастают за счет превращения многих отмелей во временные песчаные острова. Это приводит к росту численности колоний и гнездовых пар малой крачки. Анотація: Th e Devinophoca emryi material from the early Badenian, early Middle??Miocene (16.26–14.89 Ma) presents mixed cranial and especially postcranial characters with the three??extant phocid subfamilies (Cystophorinae, Monachinae and Phocinae), as well as unique postcranial??characters not seen in any taxa. Th ese distinguishing characters (i. e. well-outlined, large oval facet on??greater tubercle of humerus; broader width between the head and lesser tubercle of humerus; femoral??proximal epiphysis larger than distal; thin innominate ilium that is excavated on ventral surface)??demonstrate that this material belongs to a recently described species (D. emryi). During ecomorphotype??analyses, fossil humerus and femur bones were directly associated with their corresponding mandible to??reveal associations based on Recent morphological analogues. Strong correlation between ecomorphotypes??and postcranial morphology supports placement of this material to D. emryi and not its sister taxon,??D. claytoni. Th e previously described skull, mandible and teeth and postcranial bones described herein??were discovered at the same locality during excavations at the base of the Malй Karpaty Mountains??(Slovakia), at the junction of the Morava and Danube rivers. Th e geological age of D. emryi and the??presence of mixed characters strongly suggest that this species was an early relative to the ancestor of seals,??possibly being a terminal branch of the phocid tree. Th is material allows for emended diagnoses of the??species, updated assessments of geographical distribution Матеріал по Devinophoca emryi з раннього??баденію (початок середнього міоцену, 16.26–14.89 млн р. т.) представляє набір ознак будо-??ви кісток черепа і особливо посткраніального скелета, характерних для представників трьох??нині існуючих підродин тюленів (Cystophorinae, Monachinae і Phocinae). У той же час він??характеризується наявністю унікальних рис будови посткраніума, яких немає у жодного з??них. Ці характерні ознаки (добре окреслена, велика овальна фасетка на великому горбку??97??плечової кістки; більша відстань між головкою і меншим горбком плечової кістки, прок-??симальний епіфіз стегнової кістки більше, ніж дистальний, тонка клубова кістка з виїмкою??на вентральній поверхні) показують, що цей матеріал належить до недавно описаного виду??(D. emryi). Під час аналізу екоморфотипу викопні плечова і стегнова кістки були безпосе-??редньо пов’язані з відповідною нижньою щелепою, щоб виявити зв’язок на основі останніх??морфологічних аналогів. Сильна кореляція між екоморфотипами і посткраніальною??морфологією підтверджує приналежність цього матеріалу до D. emryi, а не його сестринсь-??кого таксона, D. claytoni. Раніше описані череп, нижня щелепа, окремі зуби, а також описані??нами кістки посткраніального скелета були виявлені в тому ж місцезнаходженні під час??розкопок біля підніжжя Малих Карпат (Словаччина), у місці злиття річок Морава і Дунай.??Геологічний вік D. emryi і наявність змішаних ознак переконливо свідчать, що цей вид був??споріднений з предком тюленів, можливо, будучи термінальною гілкою дерева фоцид. Цей??матеріал дозволяє уточнити діагнози видів, географічний розподіл і надає додаткові відомості??для роз’яснення спірних філогенетичних зв’язків у межах Phocidae. Анотація: Song repertoire of geographically??isolated Chiff chaff population that formed in Crimean mountains in 1990s is analyzed. Th ere are 42 song??elements in the Crimean Chiff chaff repertoire. A quarter of their song elements appear to be specifi c for this??population because it is absent in neighboring European Chiff chaff populations from regions to the north??(Ph. c. abietinus subspecies) and west (Ph. c. collybita subspecies). Comparison of song elements of Crimean??Chiff chaff s with those of Caucasian birds of Ph. c. caucasica subspecies shows that they belong to same vocal??population: specifi c elements in Crimean Chiff chaff songs are found also in songs of Caucasian birds. Th is??is evidence that breeding population of Chiff chaff in Crimea originated from the species expansion from??Caucasus, and that Crimean Chiff chaff s belong to Ph. c. caucasica subspecies. Проаналізовано вокальний репертуар географічно ізольованої популяції вівчариків, що виник-??ла в горах Кримського півострова в 90-х роках ХХ століття. У репертуарі кримських вівчариків??виявлено 42 пісенних елементи. Чверть пісенних елементів з репертуару кримських птахів вия-??вилися специфічними — вони були відсутні в репертуарі вівчариків європейських популяцій??з географічно близьких до Кримського півострова регіонів — районів, розташованих на північ??(підвид Ph. c. abietinus) і захід (підвид Ph. c. collybita) від нього. Порівняння набору елементів пісень??кримських вівчариків з елементами, виявленими в піснях птахів з Кавказу (підвид Ph. c. caucasica),??показало, що вони належать до однієї вокальної популяції — специфічні елементи, які знайшли в??піснях кримських вівчариків, були присутні і в піснях кавказьких птахів. Це свідчить, що гніздова??популяція вівчариків у Криму утворилася в результаті експансії птахів з Кавказу, а кримські??вівчарики належать до підвиду Ph. c. caucasica. Дод. точки доступу: Tsvelykh, A.
