In the recent years blending of polymers the cheapest way of producing materials with improved properties without development of new products. Blends of acrylonitrile-butadiene (NBR) rubber, of the Europrene N3345 type and chlorosulphonated polyethylene (CSM) rubber, of the Hypalon 40S type were prepared (50:50) and their vulcanizates evaluated for technological properties. The effect of precipitated silica, of the Ultrasil VN3 type, on the cure characteristics, physical and mechanical properties andthermo-oxidative degradation on the NBR-CSM blends was studied at different loadings (2, 5, 10, 20, 35 phr). Modulus and crosslink density were calculated using experimental stress-strain curves and their increases with the mass ratio of silica increased. Volume fraction of vulcanizates v2, Flory-Huggins parameter ( and rate of swelling S.B. determined by swelling methods during 48 h at 298 K in methyl-ethyl ketone .v2 and ( increases, but S.B. decreases with the rato of silica increased. Results indicate that precipitated silica improved of the most physical and mechanical properties compared to carbon black fillers. From the Kraus equation the <$Eroman V sub rO~/~ V rf> ratio decreases with volume fraction of silica filler <$E theta>, increased.
