Some species of nep (Nepeta sp.) are perspective medicinal, essential-oil, and spicy-aromatic cultures. N. transcaucasica Grossh is the most convenient object for an experimental polyploidy, since it has a low chromosome set. The studies of polyploidization effects of various dinitroaniline herbicides (orysalin, trifluralin, ethalfluralin, pendimethalin and benefin) in comparison with colchicine were done for successful production of polyploids. The explants of N.transcaucasica were cultivated during 30 days on the media in the presence of respective dinitroaniline in concentrations of 5, 10, and <$E20~mu M> or colchicine in concentrations of 20, 100, 500, 1000, and <$E 1500~mu M>. It was established that dinitroanilines possessed a higher polyploidization potential that colchicine. The most optimal concentration for all substances of the dinitroaniline series was a concentration of <$E 10 mu M>. Ethalfluralin, trifluralin, and pendimethalin showed the most expressed polyploidization effect but pendimethalin possessed a higher level of toxicity. Ethalfluralin was the most effective one among the tested compounds in such a concentration.
