Данный сборник содержит материалы Международного круглого стола на тему: «65 лет с начала депортации жителей Украины в Казахстан», который состоялся 20 ноября 2012 года на базе Карагандинского государственного технического университета (Республика Казахстан). Начиная с 1947 года в Казахстан было депортировано около 500 тыс украинцев. В том числе, 171,5 тыс. человек – «семьи участников банд ОУН, пособники членам ОУН и члены их семей, кулаки-националисты и их семьи»; около 300 тыс. украинцев, возвратившихся из лагерей Германии и выселенных «за государственную измену» на спецпоселениев восточные районы СССР. В Казахстане с большим вниманием относятсяк сохранению исторической правды о периоде тоталитарного режима. По инициативе Президента Нурсултана Назарбаева установлен День памятижертв политических репрессий и массового голода - 31 мая, открыты музейно-мемориальные комплексы, поставлены монументы, пострадавшим в тегоды, осуществляется научно-образовательная и публицистическая работа. Государство оказывает значительное содействие для сохранения памяти о жертвах сталинских репрессий - представителей разных стран и национальностей. В частности, были установлены памятные знаки украинцам, грузинам, азербайджанцам, полякам, литовцам (на месте лагеря "АЛЖИР"), а также чеченцам, японцам, корейцам, немцам, туркам и другим репрессированным народам из 15 республик бывшего СССР (с. Спасское, с. Долинка Карагандинской области). Научно-образовательными учреждениями и общественностью Казахстана осуществляется активная поисковая работа и по теме «Голодомора», в том числе и в Казахстане, где в1932-33 гг. погибло почти 40% населения. С обретением независимости Республики Казахстан активно осуществляется реабилитация многих репрессированных лиц, которая сопровождается поддержкой со стороны государства и местных органов власти.Поэтому организаторы круглого стола посвятили выпуск данного сборника Дню Первого Президента Республики Казахстан, благодаря которому в Казахстане стало возможным не только проведение таких мероприятий, но и то, что с первых лет новейшей истории независимой Республики и поныне реализуется последовательная деятельность органов государственной власти по увековечиванию памяти невинно пострадавших людей, созданию благоприятного климата в стране для осуществления мирного труда каждого труженика, проживающего на её территории. Поставленные цели, по мнению участников, достигнуты. Но главный итог его работы: впервые в качестве отдельной страницы трагической истории репрессий в СССР обсуждена тема массовой депортации украинского населения в Казахстан после Второй мировой войны. 4 Эта тема актуальна для всех, кто интересуется историей политических репрессий и судьбами миллионов людей, насильственно изгнанных со своей земли.

Предлагаемый вниманию читателя ежегодник создавался усилиями разных людей, работавших в разное время. Но имеющих, как нам это представляется, некую общую направленность интереса и единство в способах его выражения. Всех этих людей на определенном этапе объединила принадлежность к одному подразделению (возникшему не случайно, в результате потребности самоопределиться) — Лаборатории постклассических исследований в философии Института философии РАН. Данный сборник является "лабораторным" по той причине, что многие из входящих в него текстов представлены как бы в своем становлении. Это не значит, что читателю предлагается "сырой материал", страдающий явной незавершенностью, — вовсе нет; это означает лишь, что целый ряд работ отражает тот путь, который их авторы проходят в своем размышлении. Поэтому хотя основные технические и редакционные усилия по подготовке настоящего издания и приходятся по большей части на прошлый год (о чем свидетельствует цифра 93 в его названии), все же вряд ли справедливо видеть в нем завершение одно-го-единственного годового цикла: ежегодник "Ad Marginem'93" — это ежегодник не только девяносто третьего, но и других, предшествовавших этому году лет, это след работы — как индивидуальной, так и совместной, — которая велась и раньше. "Архив сегодня" включает ряд признанных текcтoв современной французской философии (Ж.-Ф. Лиотар, Ж. Бодрийяр, Ж. Деррида), которые представляет читателю их переводчик А.Гараджа. Разнообразие тем - общие вопросы постмодернизма, совращение как ключевой термин для обозначения определенных перцептивных практик, анализ текстов Дж. Asia and the Middle East examines crisis areas in the nations of the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. This set applies a broad definition to "Middle East" to encompass the predominantly Muslim nations of both the eastern Mediterranean region and North Africa. This definition corresponds closely with the U.S. State Department's definition of "Near East." The thirty-four articles in World Conflicts: Asia and the Middle East are updated versions of articles that appeared in Salem Press's World Conflicts and Confrontations. Nazisploitation! examines past intersections of National Socialism and popular cinema and the recent reemergence of this imagery in contemporary visual culture. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, films such as Love Camp 7 and Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS introduced and reinforced the image of Nazis as master paradigms of evil in what film theorists deem the 'sleaze' film. More recently, Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, as well as video games such as Call of Duty: World at War, have reinvented this iconography for new audiences. In these works, the violent Nazi becomes the hyperbolic caricature of the "monstrous feminine" or the masculine sadist. Power-hungry scientists seek to clone the Führer, and Nazi zombies rise from the grave. The history, aesthetic strategies, and political implications of such translations of National Socialism into the realm of commercial, low brow, and 'sleaze' visual culture are the focus of this book. The contributors examine when and why the Nazisploitation genre emerged as it did, how it establishes and violates taboos, and why this iconography resonates with contemporary audiences.

This book is designed to provide an accessible survey of the history of propaganda from 1500 to the present. After a historical introduction by David Welch outlining the development of propaganda, the encyclopedia presents more than 250 entries. These include geographic entries examining a country such as Britain or Portugal or—where the propaganda history is either less clearly delineated along national lines or the scholarship to date in English is more limited—a region such as Scandinavia or Latin America. We have tried to be as geographically comprehensive as possible. Case-study entries present events or movements, from abolitionism to Zionism. Technique entries deal with a particular method, such as posters, portraiture, or music; film and radio entries both have multiple subdivisions, reflecting the special role of these media in twentiethcentury propaganda. Concept entries define and explain terms used by and about propagandists: black propaganda, brainwashing, and so forth. The long entry “Propaganda, Definitions of ” offers multiple definitions of the term. This encyclopedia includes entries devoted to individuals connected with propaganda, from Martin Luther to Osama bin Laden, as well as entries for some of the key institutions of propaganda—such as the Office of War Information (OWI) in the United States during World War II—and some of the best-known documents and artifacts of propaganda (such as the film Casablanca and the novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin). Each entry contains suggestions for further reading, which generally also served as the chief sources for quotations and factual or other details within the entry. Most propaganda agencies—for example, the CIA or the BBC—are better known by their initials than their full names and are therefore listed that way.

A fifth of West Germany's post-1945 population consisted of ethnic German refugees expelled from Eastern Europe, a quarter of whom came from Silesia. As the richest territory lost inside Germany's interwar borders, Silesia was a leading objective for territorial revisionists, many of whom were themselves expellees. The Lost German East examines how and why millions of Silesian expellees came to terms with the loss of their homeland. Applying theories of memory and nostalgia, as well as recent studies on ethnic cleansing, Andrew Demshuk shows how, over time, most expellees came to recognize that the idealized world they mourned no longer existed. Revising the traditional view that most of those expelled sought a restoration of prewar borders so they could return to the east, Demshuk offers a new answer to the question of why, after decades of violent upheaval, peace and stability took root in West Germany during the tense early years of the Cold War.

A few were taken by prominent photographers, such as Cecil Beaton and Robert Capa, but many of the photographers--some destined to remain unknown, others ordinary officers and men--served with army film and photographic units. There are also captured German and Japanese official photographs. Presentation is by year, from 1939 to 1945. Holmes prefaces each year with an account of its major events and briefly introduces each block of photos within a year. Although most of the pictures are war photos, some reflect the fact that millions of civilians were affected - young children being evacuated from London, a British air raid warden comforting a child rescued from a bombed-out home, German citizens made to view the horrors of the Buchenwald concentration camp, shaven-headed French women accused of sexually consorting with the Germans.
