Основой книги служит обыкновенный школьный курс геометрии на плоскости, однако содержание её выходит за рамки существующих программ. Это энциклопедия элементарной геометрии, стоящая на уровне современной науки и написанная выдающимся математиком. Существенным достоинством книги является наличие большого числа задач, многие из которых могут дать материал для творческой работы. В третьем издании книги помещены полные решения всех этих задач. Жак Адамар (фр. Jacques Salomon Hadamard, 8 декабря 1865 года — 17 октября 1963 года) — французский математик, иностранный чл. -корр. (02.12.1922) и иностранный почетный член (31.01.1929) АН СССР, чл. Парижской АН (1912), проф. Коллеж де Франс (1897-1935), Парижского унив-та (1900-1912), Политехнической школы (1912-1935). In the German-language scholarly tradition, a Festschrift is a collection of writings published in honor of a living scholar, containing original contributions by close colleagues and former students. On Freedom and Free Enterprise: Essays in Honor of Ludwig von Mises (1956), edited by Mary Sennholz, was the first Festschrift in Mises's honor, and the essays it contains have proven fruitful sources for decades. Preeminently, it contains Murray N. Rothbard's reconstruction of utility and welfare theory. The other contributors are Jacques Rueff, William E. Rappard, Henry Hazlitt, Bertrand de Jouvenel, Hans F. Sennholz, F.A. Harper, Wilhelm Röpke, Faustino Ballvé, Carlo Antoni, Louis M. Spadaro, Fritz Machlup, L.M. Lachmann, Leonard E. Read, W.H. Hutt, William H. Peterson, F.A. Hayek, Percy L. Greaves, Jr., and Louis Baudin. There is also an introduction by the editor, Mary Sennholz. Ludwig von Mises (1881–1973) brought the Austrian School of political economy to the United States. His colleagues in Europe called him the "last knight of liberalism" because he was the champion of the classical-liberal ideal of liberty and property that they considered dead and gone in an age of central planning and socialism of all varieties

After accepting the kind offer of Jacques Le Goff and the publisher to compile the volume in the Making of Europe series dedicated to legal history, I found myself faced with an unenviable task. I shall attempt here to sketch the outline of a historical and juridical narrative that spreads over more than fifteen centuries and the entire European continent, whilst following this series’ habitual combination of unstinting intellectual rigour with an equally unstinting accessibility of discussion. I must therefore scrupulously avoid the comfortable recourse of closed scholarly debate, and instead make it a priority to communicate with those outside the limited circle of experts.

Slavoj Zizek was born in 1949 and is a Slovenian political philosopher, sociologist, and cultural critic best known for work with French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. Zizek writes on many topics, including the Iraq War, political correctness, globalization, human rights, and multiculturalism. His thought has received mixed receptions, from celebratory to deeply critical, but his politics are the element that most needs critical reassessment. This book introduces Zizek's primary areas of interest and the fields in which he has made his most influential contributions: ideology and political subjectivity; political totalitarianism; and contemporary culture. Inspired by his own experiences working as an infectious diseases physician in Africa, Jacques Pepin looks back to the early twentieth-century events in Africa that triggered the emergence of HIV/AIDS and traces its subsequent development into the most dramatic and destructive epidemic of modern times. He shows how the disease was first transmitted from chimpanzees to man and then how urbanization, prostitution, and large-scale colonial medical campaigns intended to eradicate tropical diseases combined to disastrous effect to fuel the spread of the virus from its origins in Léopoldville to the rest of Africa, the Caribbean and ultimately worldwide. This is an essential new perspective on HIV/AIDS and on the lessons that must be learnt if we are to avoid provoking another pandemic in the future.
