Ideas about heredity and evolution are undergoing a revolutionary change. New findings in molecular biology challenge the gene-centered version of Darwinian theory according to which adaptation occurs only through natural selection of chance DNA variations. In Evolution in Four Dimensions, Eva Jablonka and Marion Lamb argue that there is more to heredity than genes. They trace four "dimensions" in evolution—four inheritance systems that play a role in evolution: genetic, epigenetic (or non-DNA cellular transmission of traits), behavioral, and symbolic (transmission through language and other forms of symbolic communication). These systems, they argue, can all provide variations on which natural selection can act. Evolution in Four Dimensions offers a richer, more complex view of evolution than the gene-based, one-dimensional view held by many today. The new synthesis advanced by Jablonka and Lamb makes clear that induced and acquired changes also play a role in evolution.

A central problem for cognitive science is how representations should be modeled. This book proposes a geometrical mode of representation based on what I call conceptual spaces. It presents a metatheory on the same level as the symbolic and connectionist modes of representation that, so far, have been dominant within cognitive science. I cast my net widely, trying to show that geometrical representations are viable for many areas within cognitive science. The scale-space conference series dates back to the NSF/ESPRIT transatlantic collaboration on "geometry-driven diffusion" A993-1996). This collaboration led to a series of very successful workshops followed by a PhD summer school on Gaussian Scale-Space Theory in Copenhagen, in the spring of 1996. The follow- following year, the First International Conference on Scale-Space Theory in Computer Vision (Utrecht, July, 1997) was held. The series of international conferences has now grown to three. As was the case for the Second International Confer- Conference (Corfu, September 1999), the 2001 conference was affiliated with the ICCV as one of its several workshops. Entitled the "Workshop on Scale-Space and Morphology", the purpose of the conference was to encourage the exchange of information and to foster interactions among researchers in scale-space theory in computer vision and mathematical morphology. With the publication of these proceedings, we feel that our purposes have been accomplished.

Gaussian Scale-Space Theory in Copenhagen, in spring 1996. After this, Bart ter Haar Romeny arranged the First International Conference on Scale-Space Theory in Computer Vision (Utrecht, July 2-4, 1997). Indeed the title was ap- appropriate since this was the first scale-space conference in a series of so far two conferences. We feel very confident that the series will be much longer. We hope that the scheduling next to ICCV '99 will attract more delegates furthering the integration of scale-space theories into computer vision.

«Інформаційний довідник для іноземців у ЧР», створений у рамках «Концепції інтеґрації іноземців» Міністерством праці та соціальних питань у співробітництві з деякими іншими міністерствами та недержавними безприбутковими орґанізаціями. Довідник призначається, головним чином, для іноземців, що походять з так званих «третіх країн», тобто країн, що не є членами Європейського Союзу, правовий статус яких у ряді аспектів відрізняється від статусу інших іноземців. У завдання довідника не входить надання детальної та вичерпної інформації, що стосується життя у ЧР, оскільки це, враховуючи обмежений об’єм документа, не видається можливим. Її метою є надати цілісний огляд елементарної інформації про Чеську Республіку та допомогти Вам спростити орієнтацію у повсякденних життєвих ситуаціях, з якими Ви зустрічатиметися у рамках процесу інтеґрації до чеського суспільства. Крім елементарних відомостей про ЧР, довідник інформує про структуру та функціонування громадського управління, шляхи вирішення кризових ситуацій, систему освіти, охорони здоров’я та соціального забезпечення, працевлаштування, житло, транспорт та ін. До публікації включений також список окремих недержавних безприбуткових орґанізацій (НБО), що діють у сфері інтеґрації іноземців.

Книга є збіркою матеріалів (стенограма та розширені тексти окремих виступів) міжнародного круглого столу «Школа толерантності. Історична освіта в полікультурному суспільстві: виклики та перспективи для України», який відбувся 14 липня 2010 р. у Києві з ініціативи та за підтримки Міжнародного фонду «Відродження» та Інституту історії України НАН України.
