The book is one of the first attempts to include Ukrainian historiography in the perspective direction of world humanitarian studies – the history of emotions. In it, on the basis of a wide source base, the most important aspect of the vision of the emotional world of the Pechersk community in the context of Eastern Christian and Eastern European traditions was comprehensively studied for the first time; the perception of tears and sadness by the Christian society of the Ukrainian Middle Ages is revealed in details. Scientific knowledge about the Kyiv-Pechersk Paterik gained further development as a valuable source for the reconstruction of the ideal sphere of emotions of the Rus era; connection parameters of the first monument of Rus patericography with translated texts; an idea of the significance of tears for medieval society. The book is intended for historians, Church historians, philologists, philosophers and all those interested in the Ukrainian Middle Ages.
