The monograph examines the place, role and significance of biography studies as a phenomenon of national culture and science, as well as an important information and communication resource in the life of Ukrainian society. The main stages of development of biography studies in the Motherland and in the Ukrainian diaspora, the achievements, current state, unsolved problems, relevant tasks, the latest defining trends and prospects for research, publishing and information work have been analyzed. The monograph reveals the experience of the Institute of Biographical Research of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine as well as of the scientists of other scientific and educational institutions in developing theoretical and methodological foundations of national biography studies, development and implementation of new achievements of the world science and culture in expanding problem-thematic range, enriching the creative arsenal of biographical research and dissemination of biographical knowledge.

The theoretical provisions and methodological recommendations formulated in the monograph are addressed to biographers – historians, literary critics, culturologists, as well as publishing and information workers, librarians – all those involved in biographical research, biographical information resources, integration and dissemination of biographical knowledge.
