The monograph, based on the analysis of a wide range of archival documents, a significant part of which has been introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, as well as bibliographic sources, reflects the participation of the outstanding scientist, collector and public and cultural figure Vasyl Oleksandrovych Shchavynskyi (1868–1924) in the Ukrainian scientific and cultural life of the end XIX – the first quarter of the XX century, his contribution to the preservation of the artistic and cultural-historical heritage is highlighted, and the art historian’s scientific work on Ukrainian studies is analyzed.
