Scientific publication “Archives of the Ukrainian Historian Olena Kompan in the Funds of the Institute of Manuscripts. Biographical Research. Scientific Catalogue.”It represents the archival heritage of the Ukrainian historian Olena Kompan (1916-1986), a researcher of the medieval and early modern history of Ukraine. Her personal fund is kept at the Institute of Manuscript of Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. Olena Stanislavivna Kompan belongs to the number of the Ukrainian Soviet historians who were forced to work under strictly regulated the Soviet censure, in which the real image of the researcher usually was leveled out. However, the scientist managed to preserve her identity and creative individuality, overcoming the boundaries of the established paradigm, as evidenced by her solid historical research and an uneasy scientific way. The publication consists of the introduction, which covers intellectual biography of O. Kompan and the Annotated Catalogue. It presents archaeological descriptions of documents reflecting the life and creative way of the scientist, her scientific heritage, correspondence, photocopies, etc. There is the description of documents related to the activities of other persons, including Ivan Senchenko who was a husband of the researcher. He is the famous Ukrainian writer. The documents of Olena Kompan’s the personal fund are the solid source for the study of the biography and creative course of the scientist, as well as the study of the history of the Ukrainian historical thought of the 40’s and 80’s of the twentieth century. A considerable number of scientific works by Olena Kompan, her scientific schools will be open to the scientific community for the first time. The publication is intended for a wide range of researchers and anyone interested in the history of the Ukrainian science and culture.
